Revised Edition of Directive 017: Measurement Requirements for Upstream Oil and Gas Operations Issued
* Implementation of Section 6: Conventional Oil Measurement
* Clarifications in Sections 1 - 5

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) announces the release of the revised edition of Directive 017: Measurement Requirements for Upstream Oil and Gas Operations, with its new Section 6: Conventional Oil Measurement effective May 7, 2007.

This revised edition includes some clarifications in Sections 1-5 of the previous edition, which appear in red type in the Web version. The new edition is available on the EUB Web site www.ercb.ca and in print from EUB Information Services.

Section 6: Conventional Oil Measurement presents the base requirements and exceptions for conventional crude oil and emulsion measurements from wells and batteries in the upstream oil and gas industry that are used in determining volumes for reporting to the EUB.

Some of the highlights of Section 6 are

  • description of the different types of oil batteries
  • system design and installation of oil/emulsion measurement devices
  • volume calculation and accounting
  • determination of production hours
  • production data verification and audit trail
  • S&W analysis
  • changes to oil well production proration testing requirements
  • common flow lines and combined (cascade) testing
  • condensate receipts at an oil battery
  • electronic flow measurement for oil systems
