Informational Letter IL 2001-2

February 1, 2001

To: All Oil and Gas Operators

FIELD AND POOL ORDERS AND GAS STRIKE AREAS

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board creates and revises Field and Pool Orders (Orders) routinely each month. These orders define a geographic area of EUB-designated Fields and Pools. The Field and Pool Order process has been a hard copy-dependent system and, as announced in General Bulletin (GB) 2000-23, this process is being changed to make better use of technology.

Changes to the Field and Pool Orders will include the following:

  • There will be a separate order for each pool, rather than a single order for all pools in a field.
  • Each order will be a single-page document, including a plat and the basic information for the order.
  • The Order number for Field Orders will be the field code and effective date of the Order (e.g., 750 2001-02-01).
  • The Order number for Strike Areas will be the strike area code and effective date (e.g., 750 2001-02-01).
  • The Order number for Pool Orders will be the field code, pool code, and effective date (e.g., 750 218001 2001-02-01).
  • Pool Orders will include a reference well, with top and base of pay information for all except confidential pools.

GB 2000-23 announced the trial period for the new process. Effective February 1, 2001, this trial period will end and the new Field and Pool Order system will be in force. To make the transition in systems, all of the old Orders must be rescinded and replaced with the new Order type. The attached Miscellaneous Order rescinds all Field and Pool Orders in force prior to February 1, 2001, and replaces them with the new Order type effective February 1, 2001.

All customers will have access to the new Field and Pool dissemination screens by way of the Internet. Field and Pool Orders and Gas Strike Areas are available on the EUB Web site at <www.ercb.ca>. The Web site will use Internet Geographical Information System software for viewing the information in map format (georeferenced maps). A one-time 1.8 megabyte download and software installation will be required to allow access to the data. This download is free and is provided within the system.

Dissemination

In addition to Internet dissemination, Field and Pool Order and Gas Strike Areas will be disseminated in the following way.

  • Customers not having access to the Internet may contact EUB Information Services (403-297-8190) for hard copies of Orders, which will be charged for on a per-Order basis.
  • A complete set of Orders will be available in PDF format on CD (price to be determined).
  • A complete set of the data will be available in ASCII text format (price to be determined) for those customers wishing to integrate the data into their own database or GIS system. Please call EUB Information Services (403-297-7041) for details.
  • Customers currently having subscriptions for the Orders may either access the Orders on the Internet or contact EUB Information Services (403-297-8193) to request a new subscription in PDF format on CD at a revised cost.
  • A publication notice will be released coincident with this IL that will provide pricing details for the files mentioned.
