Bulletins and Directives

The ERCB (formerly the EUB)  has begun an initiative to review and streamline ERCB requirements contained in interim directives, informational letters, and guides, as well as to update and clarify the requirements. First, the ERCB will issue only "directives" which replace interim directives, informational letters, and guides. Directives are documents setting out new or amended ERCB requirements or processes to be implemented and followed by licensees, permittees, and other approval holders under the jurisdiction of the ERCB. Existing interim directives, informational letters, and guides will be reviewed and renamed as the initiative progresses. ERCB guides have now been reissued as directives. Directives that dealt with Utilities issues have been reissued as Rules and are available through the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) web site at www.auc.ab.ca.

Second, the ERCB has renamed general bulletins as "bulletins." These contain announcements to inform the energy industry and the public of an ERCB activity, such as a consultation, a new program, electronic submission of data, or a new publication. Bulletins do not set out ERCB requirements. Bulletins not found on the ERCB Web site are available on request from the ERCB.

All active and in effect Directives and Bulletins are published and available on the ERCB Web site at no charge.

Guides

This series of publications includes guides, manuals, and handbooks that contain information of a 'how-to' nature. Each guide is assigned a unique number prefixed by a 'G' (eg. GUIDE-3). All guides that contain requirements have now been converted to Directives. The majority of numbers have been preserved as the documents have been converted. For example, Guide 71 has become Directive 071.
