TWO NEW BOARD MEMBERS APPOINTED TO THE ALBERTA ENERGY AND UTILITIES BOARD

Calgary (December 19, 2001) The Government of Alberta has appointed John R. Nichol and J. Ian Douglas as Board Members of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) effective January 1, 2002.

John Nichol is Executive Manager of the EUB's Compliance and Operations Branch and has been with the EUB since 1970 in a series of increasingly responsible positions. Ian Douglas has recently joined the EUB as Executive Manager of the Finance Branch after an extensive career with KPMG. He has been providing financial counsel to the Board of the EUB for the past few months.

"I am very pleased with these two appointments," said EUB Chairman Neil McCrank. "The technical and professional strength these two gentlemen will bring to the Board of the EUB will add a great deal to our regulatory strength in dealing with record high industry activity levels across all aspects of energy development within Alberta."
"John Nichol is a Professional Engineer with more than 30 years of regulatory and senior management leadership, along with significant expertise in the energy and utilities sectors. Ian Douglas is a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in securities matters and on the financial side of the petroleum industry."

Board Members of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board are appointed by the Government of Alberta. The appointment of Mr. Douglas and Mr. Nichol brings to nine the total number of full-time Board Members, including the Chairman. In addition, Acting Board Members may be appointed from time to time, offering the EUB specific skill sets and abilities as required for specific assignments. The EUB ensures that the discovery, development and delivery of Alberta's resources takes place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
