ST57: Field Surveillance and Operations Branch Provincial Summary
ST 57-2011: Field Surveillance and Operations Branch Provincial Summary 2010 summarizes the oil and gas industry’s compliance with ERCB requirements and the activities carried out by Field Surveillance and Operations Branch personnel.
Highlights from 2010 include the following:
- The ERCB conducted 18 575 field inspections/audits, of which 263 (1.4 per cent) were high risk noncompliant.
- The overall compliance rate with high risk requirements was 98.6 per cent, unchanged from 2009.
- The pipeline failure rate was 1.6 per 1000 km, a decrease from 1.7 per 1000 km in 2009.
- There were 1174 liquid releases recorded—94 per cent of which had no impact on the public—a decrease from 1191 in 2009.
- A total of 9793 wells were drilled—an increase from 7232 wells drilled in 2009—and 326 drilling operations inspections were conducted. There was a 94.5 per cent compliance rate with high risk requirements.
- The Community and Aboriginal Relations (CAR) Group delivered 180 presentations at 218 multistakeholder group meetings and proactively and responsively engaged 491 stakeholders.

In 2006 the EUB launched the EUB Provincial Surveillance and Compliance Summary (ST99-2006), which combines and replaced previous reports ST 57: Field Surveillance Provincial Summary and ST 99: Proactive Compliance Report. This new report details the oil and gas industry's compliance with EUB requirements, the enforcement actions taken in cases of noncompliance, and the wide range of activities carried out by EUB staff.
