ERCB RESPONDING TO WELL CONTROL INCIDENT
Calgary, Alberta (January 13, 2012) The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) is responding to an incident involving two companies near Innisfail. On Friday, January 13, 2012, hydraulic fracturing operations conducted by Midway Energy appeared to have impacted a nearby oil well operated by Wildstream Exploration, resulting in a release of fracturing fluids.
There were no injuries and no confirmed wildlife impacts to date. Both wells have been shut in. and cleanup is underway.
The volume of the fluid release, which included fracturing oil, nitrogen and sand, has not been confirmed.
The ERCB continues to investigate the incident. All appropriate agencies have been notified.
