NOTICE OF AMENDMENT TO BOARD ORDER MU 1101

PROCEEDING NO. 1357566

Take notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) may amend Board Order MU 1101 without further notice if no submissions for or against the proposed amendment to Order MU 1101 are received on or before October 1, 2004.

Nature of the Proceeding

Further to the submission of commingling applications by EnCana, Applications No. 1350584, 1351054 and No. 1351912, the EUB intends to amend Board Order MU 1101 for the area in the Province of Alberta, South of Township 31 and East of the 5th Meridian, so that gas production from pools in the Milk River Sand, First White Speckled Shale, Medicine Hat Sand, Colorado Group Shale, Second White Speckled Shale and Fish Scale Shale may be taken without segregation in the wellbore.

The proposed amendment to commingle the gas production from pools in the First White Speckled Shale, Colorado Shale and Fish Scale Shale with the Milk River Formation, Medicine Hat Sand, and Second White Speckled Shale is based on the following:

  • The First White Speckled Shale, Colorado Shale and Fish Scale Shale are very tight silts and shales with low permeabilities and porosities.

  • Based on limited available data, these zones show very low production rates.

  • Due to their marginal productivity, the EUB considers them appropriate zones for commingling with other zones in the wellbore.

  • The zones are within close proximity to the Milk River, Medicine Hat and Second White Speckled Shale within the Colorado Group.

  • The Milk River, Medicine Hat and Second White Speckled Shale have been previously approved for commingled production in the said area under Board Order MU 1101.

  • Gas compositions of the above zones are similar and pose no problem for commingling.

  • Commingling would allow the operators to exploit these tighter, potential gas bearing zones.
