NOTICE OF HEARING
APPLICATIONS NO. 1448618 AND 1448619 
COMPTON PETROLEUM CORPORATION

Take Notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB/Board) will hold a public hearing of Applications No. 1448618 and 1448619 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, 201 West Chestermere Drive, Chestermere, Alberta, commencing on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. All interveners to this proceeding must be present at the commencement of the hearing to register their appearance.

Take Further Notice that the EUB staff will hold an information session on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 7:00 p.m., at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, 201 West Chestermere Drive, Chestermere, Alberta, to explain the EUB hearing process and the rules for intervener funding. The merits of the applications will not be discussed at this information session. Attendance is recommended, but not mandatory. 

Nature of the Application
Compton Petroleum Corporation (Compton) has applied pursuant to Section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations for a licence to drill two vertical natural gas wells from two surface locations in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 5 and LSD 7 of Section 26, Township 23, Range 28, West of the 4th Meridian. The proposed wells target the Belly River Formation and would have a maximum hydrogen sulphide concentration of 0.0 moles per kilomole (0.0 per cent). The proposed wells would be located about 2.8 kilometres southwest of the Town of Chestermere.

Any person intending to make a submission with respect to the hearing of Applications No. 1448618 and 1448619 must file on or before, Wednesday, November 1, 2006. Send one copy of your submission to the applicant at the name and address above and ten copies to

Notes
Any submission filed must contain the following:

(a) a concise statement indicating
  
(i) the manner in which the intervener’s rights may be directly and adversely affected by a decision of the Board on the proceeding,

(ii) the nature and scope of the intervener’s intended participation,

(iii) the disposition of the proceeding that the intervener advocates, if any,

(iv) the facts the intervener proposes to show in evidence,

(v) the reasons why the intervener believes the Board should decide in the manner that the intervener advocates, and

(vi) the intervener’s efforts, if any, to resolve issues associated with the proceeding directly with the applicant;


(b) the name, address in Alberta, telephone number, fax number and, if available, e-mail address of the intervener;

(c) if the intervener is represented by a representative, the name, address in Alberta, telephone number, fax number and, if available, e-mail address of the representative; and

(d) if the intervener is an unincorporated organization, the nature of the intervener’s membership.

If you have an interest in this matter, you are required to make a submission with respect to this application even if you have previously filed a submission with the Board or with Compton on this application.

If there are no submissions received, this hearing may be cancelled and the EUB will continue to process the application without further notice or without a hearing.

Submissions relating exclusively to compensation for land usage are not dealt with by the EUB but may be referred to the Alberta Surface Rights Board.

In accordance with Section 12 of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board Rules of Practice, all documents filed in respect of this proceeding must be placed on the public record unless otherwise ordered by the Board.

In accordance with Section 23.1 of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board Rules of Practice, a person who intends to raise a question of constitutional law before the Board must give notice in accordance with Section 12 of the Administrative Procedures and Jurisdiction Act and its regulation.

In accordance with Section 38 of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board Rules of Practice, witnesses must give evidence under oath or affirmation.
