TRANSALTA UTILITIES CORPORATION

Take Notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) may continue to process this application without further notice if no objections are received on or before February 21, 2003.

Nature of the Application

TransAlta Utilities Corporation (TransAlta) has applied to the EUB for approval to amend by extending the adjacent area of Mine Licence No. C 2000-33 to facilitate the continuation of surface coal mining and reclamation operations under and south of the present location of Highway 627; as well as; the cuts in Pit 02N that advance towards and parallel to Pit 01. This surface coal mine development is located south of Wabamun Lake in Parkland County, within Township 51, Range 4, West of the 5th Meridian. The Highvale Mine currently produces 12.5 million tones of sub-bituminous coal annually, which is supplied as fuel to the Sundance and Keephills Thermal Generating Stations.

To File an Objection

Any person intending to file an objection with respect to Application No. 1273723 shall file the objection, on or before February 21, 2003. Send one copy of your objection to the applicant at the above-mentioned address, and three copies of the objection to the attention of:

Any submission filed shall contain information detailing:

(i) the desired disposition of the application;
(ii) facts substantiating the position of the submitter; and
(iii) reasons why the submitter believes the EUB should decide in the manner advocated.

Submissions relating exclusively to compensation for land usage are notdealt with by the Board, but may be referred to the Alberta Surface Rights Board.
