NOTICE OF HEARING

APPLICATION NO. 1275479

NEXEN CANADA LTD.

CROSSFIELD AREA

Take Notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) will hold a public hearing of Application No. 1275479 at the Best Western Regency Inn, 121 Edmonton Trail, Airdrie, Alberta, commencing on Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. All interveners to this proceeding must be present at the commencement of the hearing to register their appearance.

Nature of the Application

Nexen Canada Ltd. (Nexen) has applied in accordance with Part 4 of the Pipeline Act and Guide 56, for a permit to construct and operate two pipelines as described below:

         A pipeline, 3.41 kilometers in length with an outside diameter (OD) of 168.3 millimetres (mm), from a two well pad site at a surface location in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 15, Section 26, Township 26, Range 28, West of the 4th Meridian to an existing gathering system at LSD 12-6-27-27W4M. The purpose of the proposed pipeline would be to transport sour natural gas with an H2S content of 190 mol/kmol. This pipeline would be classified as a level-1 pipeline with regard to setbacks.

         A fuel gas line, 33 meters in length with an OD of 60.3mm, from an existing pipeline at LSD 15-26-26-28W4M to the well at the same surface location. The purpose of the proposed pipeline would be to transport sweet fuel gas.

Notes

Any submission filed shall contain information detailing:

(i)                the desired disposition of the application;

(ii)               the facts substantiating the position of the submitter;

(iii)             the reasons why the submitter believes the EUB should decide in the manner advocated; and

(iv)            how the proposed project, if approved, may directly and adversely affect the submitter.

If you have an interest in this matter, you are required to make a submission with respect to this application even if you have previously filed a submission with the Board or with Nexen on this application.

If there are no submissions received, this hearing may be cancelled and the EUB will continue to process the application without further notice or without a hearing.

In accordance with Section 38 of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board Rules of Practice, witnesses must give evidence under oath or affirmation.

Submissions relating exclusively to compensation for land usage are not dealt with by the EUB but may be referred to the Alberta Surface Rights Board.
