Nature of the Application

Murphy Oil Company Ltd. (Murphy Oil) has applied pursuant to Section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations for a licence to drill a Level- 4 critical sour well from a surface location in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 9 of Section 17, Township 40, Range 15, West of the 5th Meridian to a projected bottomhole location in LSD 1-21-40-15 W5M. The proposed well would be located approximately 3.2 kilometres south and west of Nordegg. The maximum hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) concentration would be approximately 11.67 per cent and the cumulative drilling H₂S release rate would be 7.96 cubic metres per second (m³/s). The purpose of the well would be to obtain gas production from the Swan Hills Member.
