Take Notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) will hold a public hearing of Application No. 1344785 at the Elks Hall, 2025 – 1029th Street, Blairmore, Alberta, commencing on November 30, 2004, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. All interveners to this proceeding must be present at the commencement of the hearing to register their appearance.
Nature of the Application
Shell Canada Limited (Shell) has submitted an application to the EUB pursuant to Section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations for a licence to drill a directional level-3 sour well from a surface location in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 2 of Section 32, Township 8, Range 3, West of the 5th Meridian to a bottom hole location of LSD 13-28-8-3W5M. The maximum hydrogen sulphide (H2S) content would be approximately 287.6 moles per kilomole (28.76 per cent) and the cumulative drilling H2S release rate would be 13.64 cubic metres per second (m3/s). During the completion and servicing of the proposed well, the release rate would be 10.75 m3/s, and the suspended/producing release rate would be 3.00 m3/s. The corresponding calculated emergency planning zones would be 15.77 kilometres (km) for the drilling release rate, 13.01 km for the completion/servicing release rate, and 4.85 km for the suspended/producing release rate. Shell has received an interim approval from the EUB for a reduced EPZ of 8.3 km. The purpose of the well is to obtain gas production from the Mount Head, Livingstone and Palliser formations. Shell has also applied for a flare permit to flare gas from the Devonian Wabamun and Mississippian Livingstone formations during the initial well stimulation, cleanup, and testing operations. The proposed well would be located approximately 9.5 km northeast of Blairmore.
