DRAFT GUIDE 20 (2003) AVAILABLE ON EUB WEB SITE FOR STAKEHOLDER COMMENT
Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) staff have prepared a revised draft of Guide 20: Well Abandonment. This document is now available for stakeholder review on the EUB Web site at http://www.ercb.ca, on the Rules, Regulations and Requirements page under Guides. The guide has been revised as part of an initiative to develop a computer system to collect and manage nonroutine abandonment requests and well licence surface abandonment reports. The intent of the revision is to
- clarify existing requirements, as set forth in the previous version of Guide 20;
- include requirements that were not in the previous version of Guide 20 but that have become industry standard; and
- identify changes in requirements.
The EUB invites its stakeholders to provide input on the revised well abandonment requirements. The EUB appreciates any comments or questions regarding this draft. Please provide your comments by July 11, 2003, to the attention of Dennis Jensen, at

The EUB will review feedback and make appropriate revisions to Guide 20 before publishing the final version on August 1, 2003. Upon publication, the revised guide will replace all previous versions of Guide 20.
Once the new Guide 20 is published, a licensee must not submit surface abandonment notifications via the EUB's Well Records System (WRS). Instead, a licensee must submit well licence abandonment information and nonroutine abandonment requests according to the new abandonment requirements explained in Guide 20. Guide 59: Well Drilling and Completion Data Filing Requirements is being revised to reflect this change.
