FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EUB APPROVES CANADIAN CRUDE SEPARATORS APPLICATIONS FOR AN OILFIELD WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITY AND ASSOCIATED FACILITIES
Calgary, Alberta (June 11, 2002) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (the Board) today issued Decision 2002-055, which conditionally approves applications by Canadian Crude Separators Inc. (CCS) to construct and operate an oilfield waste management facility, an injection well, and a 7.8 km pipeline. A disposal scheme application was also conditionally approved.
Six conditions were placed on the approvals, including an enhanced spill containment design in order to prevent spilled fluids and precipitation from escaping from the site. The conditions also require CCS to carry out extensive groundwater monitoring, and report back to the Board during different phases of construction and operation. In addition, CCS made 10 commitments, which include conducting a second, post-construction noise survey.
The applications were the subject of an oral hearing in Edson on February 5 - 7, 2002 and concluded with a written portion that ended April 26, 2002. Following the hearing, the Board concluded it was in the public interest to approve the applications.
