EUB SETS FORTH SCHEDULE FOR COMPTON PETROLEUM HEARING
Calgary, Alberta (November 18, 2003) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) today issued Decision 2003-088, which establishes the schedule for an EUB hearing to consider applications by Compton Petroleum Corporation for its North Okotoks Horizontal Well Program, located 1.1 kilometres east of Calgary's southeast city limits.
The hearing will be held March 30, 2004 in southeast Calgary.
The decision also sets forth the main issues that will be considered at the hearing, including any need for the applied-for wells, facility, and special well spacing orders; location of the proposed wells and facility; environmental impacts; health and safety impacts; land-use impacts; adequacy of public consultation efforts; facility proliferation; integrity of existing pipelines and facilities; Compton's corporate safety and compliance records, and insurance.
In addition, Decision 2003-088 reiterates EUB rulings on intervener standing and costs that were distributed to all registered parties on October 28, 2003.
Due to the number of issues associated with these applications, the EUB held a prehearing meeting in Calgary on Oct. 23, 2003 to obtain information from interested parties and Compton to ensure that the public hearing would be conducted efficiently and effectively.
The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
