EUB APPROVES COMPTON REQUEST FOR ADJOURNMENT OF HEARING

Calgary, Alberta (March 16, 2004) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) today granted a request by Compton Petroleum Corporation to adjourn an EUB hearing to consider applications by Compton for its North Okotoks Horizontal Well Program, located 1.1 kilometres east of Calgarys southeast city limits.

The hearing, originally scheduled to commence March 30, 2004, will be rescheduled subject to the availability of participants and a suitable venue.

Compton filed its adjournment request with the EUB on March 9, 2004. The EUB forwarded the request to all registered interveners for their comments and reviewed all of the materials prior to making its ruling.

Concerns raised by Compton include: the need to extend the current land-use resource development agreement with local landowners, review requests filed with the EUB regarding Comptons existing wells in the area, the emergency response plan requirements set forth in the EUBs Guide 71, and the EUBs process.

To provide all participants with the most amount of notice regarding the delay, the EUB granted the adjournment without including reasons for its decision. The reasons for granting the adjournment will be released at a later date.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
