Brooks, Alberta (August 10, 2005) At approximately 2:30 p.m., well control experts secured the Celtic Exploration Oil Well, located 5 kilometres southeast of Brooks. The fire was extinguished and the flow from the well ceased.

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) will now investigate the technical and emergency management aspects of the incident.

The blowout occurred on Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at 4:45 pm, at a Celtic Exploration oil well 5 kilometres southeast of Brooks. The well was being completed by Precision Drilling on behalf of Celtic Exploration at the time of the incident. One Precision worker was fatally injured and two others were sent to hospital.

Public safety is the EUBs first priority and EUB management and field staff were on site throughout the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources and utilities services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
