ACCLAIM ENERGY OIL WELL KICK ENDS

St. Albert, Alberta (December 17, 2005) A natural gas kick ended today at an oil well licensed to Acclaim Energy in the Acheson Field, west of Edmonton city limits.

The kick occurred on December 12 and Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) staff were on site immediately after the event occurred.

A kick occurs when a volume of gas, oil or other fluids enter the well bore unexpectedly. It can generally be controlled by pumping additional modified drilling fluids into the well bore.

The public was not in any danger as a result of the incident, no injuries were reported, and no evacuations took place. All appropriate local authorities were notified of the incident.

The cause of the kick is not known at this time and, as is the normal practice, an investigation into the incident will be conducted by the EUB.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources and utilities services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
