FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EUB CLOSES COMPTON CRITICAL SOUR GAS WELL APPLICATIONS
Calgary, Alberta (January 4, 2006) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) today advised Compton Petroleum Corporation that the applications associated with its North Okotoks Horizontal Well Program, located 4.5 kilometres southeast of the nearest community in Calgary, have been closed due to Compton's failure to file its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) by the deadline of January 3, 2006.
On December 21, 2005, the EUB denied an application from Compton to extend the deadline for submitting its ERP from January 1, 2006 to September 1, 2006. However, the EUB indicated it would accept a draft ERP on January 3 instead, and continue with the process that had originally been set forth in Decision 2005-060, and further clarified in November 2005.
The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
