FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EUB SEEKS COMMENT ON SEALED COMPTON PIPELINE DECISION

Calgary, Alberta (January 24, 2006) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) has issued a letter to interested parties regarding a sealed addendum to Decision 2000-20, which establishes a minimum operating term for the Chestermere pipeline licence. The EUB intends to issue the addendum if none of the parties can demonstrate the release will cause them prejudice.

The EUB feels this step is necessary due to the uncertain status of the Land-use Resource Development agreement (LRD) established by Compton Petroleum Corporation and landowners in the area of the pipeline.

Compton has indicated that it considers that the LRD has failed, while the landowners maintain that it has not. Although the EUB has no jurisdiction over the LRD, a private arrangement, the EUB does have an obligation to provide regulatory certainty in those areas where it does hold jurisdiction.

If no parties express concerns respecting the release of the addendum by January 30, 2006, the EUB will issue the addendum shortly thereafter. However, if the EUB receives written objections, the release of the addendum may be postponed pending a process to consider the merits of the objections.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
