Calgary, Alberta (May 25, 2006) Field staff from the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) are investigating a sour gas release at the Shell Waterton gas plant just outside of the Waterton Lakes National Park this morning.

The release occurred at approximately 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 25. Staff from Shell discovered and isolated the source of the leak, which was ended at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. There were no injuries and no complaints from the public as a result of the incident.

Shell’s Emergency Response Plan requires the company to immediately notify the EUB of an incident. The EUB was notified of the incident at 12:20 p.m. Thursday.

As is the normal practice, EUB staff will conduct an investigation into the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta’s energy resources and utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
