EUB WORKING WITH MILESTONE RESOURCES TO CONTROL SWEET GAS WELL BLOWOUT SOUTHWEST OF PEACE RIVER

Calgary, Alberta (October 15, 2006) Field staff from the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) are onsite monitoring well-control efforts at a sweet gas well blow out located at 16-05-81-24 W5, approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Peace River. The blowout occurred late on Saturday, October 14.

There have been no injuries, no evacuations were necessary and there have been no environmental impacts. The nearest resident is approximately three km from the well. The EUB’s mobile air monitoring unit is at the site and an air monitoring company has been contracted by Milestone. There have been no harmful emissions detected on or off lease.

All appropriate emergency response agencies have been notified, including Alberta Environment and Emergency Management Alberta.

Well-control operations have been suspended for the day, pending the arrival of further equipment. Efforts to regain control of the well are expected to resume Monday morning.

The EUB regulates investor-owned natural gas, electric, and water utilities to ensure that customers receive safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates, and ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
