EUB INVESTIGATING ENERGY FACILITY FIRE ON ENOCH RESERVE

Calgary, Alberta (May 20, 2007) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) is investigating an overnight fire at an oil battery owned by CNPC International (Canada) on the Enoch reserve west of Edmonton.

The fire began at about midnight and was extinguished by approximately 4:30 am. There was no threat to the public, no injuries, and no evacuations were necessary. Air monitoring during the fire indicated no hydrogen sulphide (H2S) readings. EUB field staff, the Enoch Fire department, and the Parkland Fire department responded.

All appropriate authorities were notified of the incident.

As is the normal practice, EUB staff will conduct an investigation into the incident.

An oil battery in an energy facility separates oil and water.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's energy resources and utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
