Calgary, AB, (June 16, 2007) Field staff from the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) are investigating an explosion which injured three workers at a water injection well 32 kilometres south of Taber.

At approximately 7 p.m. on June 15, 2007, an explosion occurred at a water injection well licensed to Husky Oil Operations Ltd. One of the workers has been hospitalized.

The well is currently shut in and crews continue work to secure the well. The well is not on fire and there are no emissions.

All appropriate authorities have been notified, there was no threat to the public, and no evacuations were necessary. EUB staff are onsite and, as is the normal practice, will conduct an investigation into the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's energy resources and utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
