EUB WORKING WITH EMERGENCY SERVICES FOLLOWING FIRE AT SWEET GAS WELL NEAR GLEICHEN

Calgary, Alberta (July 29, 2007) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) is working closely with emergency services personnel after a fire at a sweet gas well near Gleichen this afternoon.

At 3:35 p.m., a gas leak and fire occurred at a sweet gas well licensed to EOG Resources Canada Inc. four km northwest of Gleichen. One worker was injured and taken by ambulance to hospital in Gleichen before being transported to Calgary by air ambulance. Other workers received cuts and scrapes.

Fire crews are on the scene working to put out the fire. The fire has been contained to the lease site. The facility does not handle waste from sour gas facilities, there have been no environmental impacts, and none are expected to occur. One family living near the site was relocated to a hotel as a precautionary measure.

When the fire has been brought under control, the EUB will commence an investigation into the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources and utilities services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
