WILLIAM TILLEMAN WELCOMES NEW REGULATORY CHAIRS
Calgary, Alberta (December 19, 2007) Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) Chairman William Tilleman welcomes the new Chairs of the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).
“I would like to thank Premier Ed Stelmach for giving me the opportunity to serve this province,” said Dr. Tilleman, who was named EUB Chair on September 17, 2007. “I know Willie Grieve and Dan McFadyen are well qualified to lead the two new Boards and eager to make a difference in the lives of Albertans.”
Tilleman further stated, “When I accepted this job, I made a commitment to the Premier and to the people of Alberta to move fast to implement all the recommendations made in two separate reports on EUB security measures at the transmission line hearing earlier this year. In the nearly 100 days since being appointed, I acted on this mandate and am pleased to move back to my practice, consistent with my commitment when taking on this assignment.”
The changes were made, Dr. Tilleman says, “Because there is an important legal principle which states that justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done. I feel that the EUB has now turned a corner. We have paved the way for the ERCB and the AUC to regulate Alberta’s energy resources and utilities in a way that people know is balanced and fair, and for the ERCB to have a necessary focus on conservation.”
Dr. Tilleman will serve as Acting Chair of the ERCB until February 1, while he continues in his role as chair of the EUB to wind down the board’s affairs.
The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta’s energy resources and utility services takes place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
