ALBERTA’S NEW CONSERVATION BOARD OPENS ITS DOORS

Calgary, Alberta (January 2, 2008) The Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) officially opened its doors today with new leadership and a more focused mandate to ensure fairness on all sides of energy development in Alberta.

The ERCB will act in the best interests of all Albertans in overseeing the efficient and effective development of our energy resources, while balancing the need for resource conservation, public safety, environmental protection, and technical innovation.

“We have paved the way for the ERCB to regulate Alberta’s energy sector in a way that people know is balanced and fair, with an enhanced focus on conservation,” said Acting ERCB Chairman Dr. William Tilleman.

Dr. Tilleman will serve as Acting Chair of the Conservation Board until February 1, while he continues in his role as chair of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) to wind down its affairs. At that time, Dan McFadyen will step into his new role as ERCB Chairman. Mr. McFadyen was appointed Chairman on December 19, 2007.

The change over to the ERCB will have no affect on previous EUB operations. Information Services and the former EUB library will remain in their current locations, as will all field centres. Attached is a map showing ERCB Field Centre locations and their contact information.
