EUB LAUNCHES NEW KIDZONE WEBSITE INTO CYBERSPACE

Calgary, Alberta (September 23, 2002) Today, Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) Chairman Neil McCrank threw the switch that officially launched the interactive new EUB Kidzone website into cyberspace.  Featuring animated Enerbuddies Emmy, Nick and RO-VR the Enerbot, the EUB Kidzone contains online games, colouring pages, an Activity Book and a Teacher's Guide.  To see what the EUB Kidzone is all about, log onto http://www.kidzone.eub.ca

In launching the site, Neil McCrank said, "The EUB Kidzone website is a fun way for Albertans of all ages to discover and learn more about sour gas safety, energy conservation and the oil and gas industry in Alberta."

The EUB Kidzone website is designed for children aged 9-12 and the site content supplements the Alberta Science curricula for grades 4 and 5.  Some of the online games featured on the interactive site include: A Sedimentary Sandwich, Sour Gas Decoding the Facts, A Field Day for Safety, Landmen & Engineers, and Plotting a Pipelines Future.

The EUB Kidzone website was developed in response to recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Public Safety and Sour Gas.  The EUB formed this Committee in 2000 to examine Alberta's sour gas regulatory system and to consult with Albertans on issues surrounding sour gas development.  After a year of review, the Committee made 87 recommendations covering sour gas issues ranging from health matters to research to information and communication.

Following a sneak peak of the site earlier this month, the Oklahoma City based Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission named the EUB Kidzone website its "best practice" for the month of September.  The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission is an organization of 37 American states which promotes conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment.

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources takes place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
