FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW EUB GUIDE PROVIDES INFORMATION ON ENERGY AND UTILITY DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS, PUBLIC HEARINGS AND COSTS
Calgary, Alberta (January 27, 2003) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) announces the availability of two new information documents, Guide 29: Energy and Utility Development Applications and the Hearing Process and its companion piece, the Guide 29 Brochure: Energy and Utility Development Applications, the Hearing Process, and Cost Awards.
The primary purpose of these two documents is to explain the EUBs application and hearing process relating to public involvement. The guides address general questions about EUB public hearings. They are the result of an extensive public consultation process, and are part of the 87 regulatory enhancement recommendations being addressed by the EUB under its Public Safety and Sour Gas initiative. Specifically, the new documents relate to Recommendations 39 and 40, which ask that Guide 29 be written so that the hearing process be made clear and more understandable for the public. The EUB is also preparing a video accompaniment to Guide 29 to enhance the publics understanding of the application and hearing process.
Both documents can be obtained from the EUBs website at www.ercb.ca. Copies will also be available via the EUBs Information Services office in Calgary, and via the EUBs eight Field Centres and two sub-offices.
While the Guide and Brochure address general questions about EUB public hearings and local interveners costs, they do not deal with the process used for utility rate applications, nor do they introduce any additional regulatory requirements for participants in a hearing.
