ACCLAIM ENERGY WELL FLOW STOPPED; OPERATIONS UNDERWAY TO SECURE WELL

St. Albert, Alberta (January 10, 2005) At approximately 2:00 p.m. on January 10, well-control experts stopped the flow of gas, water and trace amounts of oil on the Acclaim Energy Trust well located west of Edmonton. The flame is now extinguished.

Well control operations will continue until the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) has determined that the well is completely secured and well-control experts have confirmed that there is no possibility that the flow could resume.

Since the flow from the Acclaim well has stopped completely, there is no source of hydrogen sulphide or sulphur dioxide and therefore no threat to public safety. Air quality monitoring will continue in the area until the well is deemed to be completely secured.

Once the well has been secured, the EUB will begin its investigation into the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's resources and utilities services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
