DEVON ENERGY COMPRESSOR STATION FIRE EXTINGUISHED
Calgary, Alberta (April 9, 2006) The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) will investigate the cause of a sour gas (H2S) compressor station fire that occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, approximately 50 kilometres south west of Grande Prairie. There were no injuries and no evacuations as a result of the fire. A small amount of sour gas was vented during the incident.
The EUB was notified of the fire and remained on scene until the fire was extinguished at approximately 10:30 p.m. by an energy industry fire safety company. Alberta Environment and the Grovedale Fire Department also attended the scene.
Devon Energy Corporation operates four compressors at the compressor station. The site will remain closed until the investigation is complete. Compressor stations elevate and maintain pipeline pressures to ensure natural gas reaches its destination.
The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's energy resources and utilities services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
