EUB INVESTIGATES COMPRESSOR STATION EXPLOSION AND FIRE NORTH OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE

Calgary, AB, (June 10, 2007) Field staff from the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) are investigating an explosion and flash fire which injured one worker at a compressor station about 30 km north of Rocky Mountain House.

At approximately 8 a.m. on June 10, 2007, an explosion and subsequent flash fire occurred at a compressor station licensed to Shiningbank Energy Ltd., leaving a worker who was outside of the building with first-degree burns to the face and hands. The compressor station has been shut in. The worker was taken to hospital by ambulance, treated and released.

Compressors are equipment used to compress gas for re-injection into a well or for pumping through a pipeline.

The facility does not handle waste from sour gas facilities, no evacuations of the public were necessary, and there were no environmental impacts. There are no residences within 3 km of the facility.

All appropriate authorities have been notified.

EUB staff are onsite and, as is the normal practice, will conduct an investigation into the incident.

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's energy resources and utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
