FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EUB Chairman Accepts Resignation of Senior Executive

Calgary, Alberta (October 15, 2007) Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) Chairman Dr. William Tilleman has accepted the resignation of the EUB’s Executive Manager of Corporate Services.

Among other executive duties, the Executive Manager of Corporate Services was responsible for the security function of the EUB. As a result of the security issues that occurred during the 500-kilovolt electric transmission line hearing held in Red Deer and Rimbey earlier this year, the Executive Manager has resigned.

“As I have previously stated, if future public hearings require security, the EUB will request the use of Sheriffs through the Alberta Solicitor General’s department,” stated Tilleman.  “If the level of risk dictates, the police service of the jurisdiction will be consulted.”

Within the last month, the EUB’s Board has unanimously closed the applications to construct and operate the 500-kilovolt transmission line from Edmonton to Calgary, set aside Decision 2005-031, which approved the need for that transmission line, as well as related Decision 2006-114.  Tilleman has also disbanded the EUB Security Unit, reorganized the EUB’s leadership team, and changed the EUB’s security protocols.  All future EUB hearings and proceedings will begin with the presiding EUB official introducing all EUB staff at the event.  Public Notices for all EUB proceedings will now state that all material relating to the proceeding is subject to Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation.

“My mandate is to move forward and I am continuing to assess the senior levels and corporate structure of the organization,” added Tilleman. “The changes being made are to reassure Albertans that the EUB has a strong regulatory framework that inspires landowner, industry, and public confidence.”

The EUB ensures that the discovery, development, and delivery of Alberta's energy resources and utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible, and in the public interest.
