ERCB INVESTIGATING DOW CHEMICAL CANADA ETHYLENE LEAK IN FORT SASKATCHEWAN

Calgary, Alberta (July 3 2008) The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) is investigating an ethylene leak from an underground storage facility in Fort Saskatchewan that began today at approximately 11:25 am. The leak was from a valve maintenance fitting on the facility wellhead, which is licensed to Dow Chemical Canada Inc.

Crews closed the valve and stopped the flow at about 3:00 pm. 

All appropriate authorities were notified, no injuries were reported, there was no threat to the public, and no evacuations were necessary. A road outside of the facility was closed and traffic was diverted.

ERCB staff are on site and, as is the normal practice, are conducting an investigation into the incident.
