ERCB ON SCENE AT SWEET GAS WELL BLOWOUT EAST OF GRANDE PRAIRIE

Calgary, Alberta (January 29, 2009) The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) is working closely with Galleon Energy Ltd. at a sweet natural gas well blowout approximately 30 kilometres east of Grande Prairie.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 29. Currently, there is an offsite hydrocarbon odour and possible condensate fluids being released.

The closest resident is 1.6 kilometres away from the well site. The resident was offered voluntary temporary relocation and accepted. There is no sour gas associated with this well. 

There is no fire, and no danger to public safety. Well control plans are underway.

All appropriate authorities have been notified and ERCB staff are on site. As is the normal practice, the ERCB will conduct an investigation into the incident.
