One of the major functions of the ERCB is to provide access to data and information about the energy industry. Two areas of the ERCB form the major interface for access to public data and records:

The Core Research Centre is an 18 000 sq. metre facility located in University Research Park. The current inventory provided for research consists of approximately 1.5 million metres of core, 16 million drill cutting samples representing an estimated 66 million metres drilled, and 350 000 tour reports. Fees have changed as of April 1, 2006 (Current fees will be reflected on this Web site)

INFORMATION SALES
Information Services
Data Available
Oil, gas, oil sands, pipeline, coal, and hydro and electric data are available for retrieval at Information Services. Data is available for selective retrieval (e.g., data for a specific well, or for the wells in a specific geographic area) or, in many cases, as a full file available on a subscription basis.

All orders are placed with Information Services, unless otherwise indicated. See the How to Order Section for full details.
Prices
Services are provided on a nonprofit basis; prices are comprised of a retrieval fee per file, plus reproduction costs. Standard rates are:
$10.00 retrieval charge on fiche
$10.00 retrieval charge on paper
plus $0.66 per microfiche card
or $1.00 per page printed
$11.00 electronic.
There is a $10 minimum per order for all purchases charged to ERCB accounts.
Legal certification of copies is available at a fee of $35 per copy.
Section/Township Retrieval Charges
Where available, a $40.00 fee for each section or $74.00 fee for each township pulled, plus microfiche charges.
Bulk retrieval services are available when the request is submitted by phone or e-mail order.
There is no bulk retrieval service available at the customer counter.
Confidentiality
Some information is held confidential for up to one year, and in a few cases up to 5 years before release for publication or examination. In general, only nonconfidential material is available. However, a letter of release from the licensee is accepted for obtaining confidential material at Core Research Centre and Information Services.
All files and programs are processed to exclude confidential data. As the data is released from confidential status it is made available to purchasers through various updating services.
Update Services
A subscription update service for many files is available. See Guide 01: Publications Catalogue for services available. Handling and postage charges will be added.
ELECTRONIC DATA SERVICES
How to Order
All orders are placed with Information Services, unless otherwise indicated. See the How to Order section of this Catalogue.
Transferral
Data are available on CD. The Standard format is as illustrated in File Description. Conversion of the data to a format other than the standard is the responsibility of the purchaser.
Retrieval and Format
Format of data records is limited to that already established, as indicated in File Descriptions, which are available for review through Information Services at no charge.
Rights
The ERCB retains the proprietary rights on all data sold.
Purchasers of ERCB data files are permitted to use the files to select and process data for internal or client use and to release copies of small portions of the files on electronic media to their clients that result from specialized retrievals. Copying of a complete file or a large portion of a file for resale is not permitted.
Arrangements may be made to obtain an initial copy and/or an update service for a full ERCB file or a substantial portion of an ERCB file from another purchaser, provided the supplier discusses with and receives approval from ERCB Information Services prior to data transfer. The ERCB fee for granting such service will be based on a maximum of 75 per cent of the current rate for the file that may be obtained directly from the ERCB.
Confidentiality
All files and programs are processed to exclude confidential data. As data is released from confidential status, it is made available to purchasers of the update services.

Documentation
Supplied with purchase. Includes detailed description of record layout and data mode. If file is complex, it may also include description of source data, limitations, editing during file creation and maintenance, and other appropriate documentation.
Updating Services for data files
Purchasers of the ERCB data files will be charged the current updating fee. Initial files must be purchased prior to obtaining subscription.
