NOTICE OF HEARING
APPLICATIONS NO. 1456689, 1459652, and 1459666

Take Notice that the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB/Board) will hold a public hearing of Applications No. 1456689, 1459652, and 1459666 at the Super 8 Drayton Valley, 3727 – 50 Street, Drayton Valley, Alberta, commencing on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. All interveners to this proceeding must be present at the commencement of the hearing to register their appearance.
Nature of the Application
Burlington Resources Canada Ltd. submitted applications in accordance with Section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations for a licence to drill three directional level-3 critical sour wells.
One well would be drilled from an existing surface location in Legal Subdivision (LSD) 13 of Section 34, Township 48, Range 9, West of the 5th Meridian, to a projected bottomhole location in LSD 7-3-49-9W5M (Application No. 1456689). This proposed well would have a maximum hydrogen sulphide (H2S) concentration of about 250 moles per kilomole (mol/kmol) (25.0 per cent) and the cumulative drilling H2S release rate would be 5.0 cubic metres per second (m3/s), with a corresponding emergency planning zone (EPZ) of 6.87 kilometres (km). The purpose of the well would be to obtain gas production from the Nisku Formation. The proposed well would be located about 11.5 km west of Drayton Valley.
In addition, two separate wells would be drilled from a proposed common surface location in LSD 3-8-49-8W5M to projected bottomhole locations in 3-17-49-8W5M (Application No. 1459652) and LSD 12-4-49-8W5M (Application No. 1459666). These proposed wells would have a maximum H2S concentration of about 250 mol/kmol (25.0 per cent), and the cumulative drilling H2S release rate would be 3.9 m3/s, with a corresponding eEPZ of 5.8 km. The purpose of these wells would be to obtain oil production from the Nisku Formation. The proposed wells would be located about 8.0 km west of Drayton Valley.

Submissions relating exclusively to compensation for land usage are not dealt with by the EUB but may be referred to the Alberta Surface Rights Board.
Note that in accordance with Section 12 of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board Rules of Practice, all documents filed in respect of this proceeding must be placed on the public record unless otherwise ordered by the Board.
