ERCB INVESTIGATION INTO BLOWOUT UNDER WAY 

Calgary, Alberta (July 12, 2010) The Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) is investigating a blowout that occurred at Devon Canada Corporation’s Jackfish Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage project on Saturday, July 10 at approximately 1:30 p.m. The incident occurred about 20 kilometres from Conklin, Alberta.

At approximately midnight, Sunday, July 11, the company successfully halted the flow of steam and small amounts of oil.

Residual oil mist was detected in the area off lease. Devon has commenced clean-up operations and will continue to work with the ERCB and other government agencies to ensure all appropriate standards for remediation are achieved.

An ERCB investigation into the incident is underway. There were no injuries and no danger to the public during the blowout.

All appropriate agencies were notified.
