Bulletin 2007-16

June 19, 2007

Public Availability of EUB Enforcement Information

The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) is commencing monthly public reporting of enforcement information, effective June 19, 2007, as part of its ongoing commitment to improving industry and EUB accountability.

The EUB Monthly Enforcement Action Summary summarizes High Risk Enforcement Action 1, High Risk Enforcement Action 2 (Persistent Noncompliance), High Risk Enforcement Action 3 (Failure to Comply or Demonstrated Disregard), Low Risk Enforcement Action Global REFER, and Legislative/Regulatory Enforcement Action noncompliance enforcement information, including company names.

The first report is for January 2007. Publication of the monthly summary will occur within 120 days of the enforcement actions. This period of time allows completion of review and appeal processes and accurate summary preparation in order to ensure regulatory fairness. Any enforcement action with an appeal pending within the EUB will not be included in the summary. Any enforcement action subsequently continued after an unsuccessful appeal will be included in a later monthly summary.

EUB Monthly Enforcement Action Summaries will be available the last Thursday of each month on the EUB Web site Compliance Information page at EUB Home : Industry Zone : Compliance and Enforcement : Compliance Information.

The EUB has a well-defined regulatory regime that requires companies to comply with regulations and requirements to ensure that energy development in Alberta takes place in a safe and responsible manner and in the public's interest. Publication of EUB enforcement actions provides additional information to Albertans about energy development operations in their respective communities and throughout the province.

The EUB believes that making this information publicly available demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the highest levels of public safety, environmental protection, and resource conservation, as well as a level playing field for industry.

Questions regarding this bulletin may be directed to the EUB Corporate Compliance Group of the Compliance and Operations Branch at (403) 297-3710.
