Safety & Compliance
Oil and gas fuel Alberta’s economy. These resources, of which Alberta produces 70 per cent of Canada’s crude oil and 80 per cent of its natural gas, also keep Canadian households heated, industries operating, and trains, planes, and automobiles on the move.
With market prices and industry activity at record highs, the role of the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) as an independent regulator of energy development is crucial. Regulation of these nonrenewable resources is needed so they can be produced safely, responsibly, and efficiently. ERCB approval is a must at each stage of an energy project’s life to ensure that the public interest is served and the social, environmental, and economic impacts of a project are taken into account.
